In its first year, the Lois and Richard Nicotra Foundation has awarded $40,000 to 47 non-profit organizations and scholarship recipients. The Foundation was back at it again last Friday, as 15 groups on Staten Island were the recipients of $13,500.
An announcement was made outside of COMMONS Cafe, which donates 100 percent of its profits to benefit the borough. Founded in 2011, The Lois and Richard Nicotra Foundation aids non-profit organizations on Staten Island as they help the community while also providing assistance to Lois and Richard Nicotras employees children and grandchildren. COMMONS Cafe, located on the grounds of the Teleport in Bloomfield, was used as a venue for the grant ceremony.
Organizers said its meaningful in that it allows patrons and employees of the cafe to see the “Eat Good. Do Good” motto of the eatery come to life.
